“There is a strange term – “territory swap”.  This is not an exchange of territories – it is a seizure of territories,” emphasized Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum and Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2014 to 2016, in an interview with the BBC.

“Putin wants all of Ukraine, not just Donetsk, Luhansk, or other regions,” Yatsenyuk stressed.

“I want to see a clear position from the war criminal Putin: is he ready to sign a genuine peace agreement, what conditions is he willing to accept, and what concessions is he prepared to make? Because right now, the only discussion is about Ukrainian concessions,” he added.

Responding to a question about what security guarantees Ukraine should seek, Yatsenyuk emphasized: “Everything depends on consistency. The main goal now is to achieve a genuine ceasefire and a peace agreement—or a comprehensive peace agreement that includes a ceasefire. After all, we remember various infamous security assurances, starting with the 1994 Budapest Memorandum.”

“The best security guarantees are provided by Article 5 of the Washington Treaty—that is, full NATO membership. But for now, while we await membership, the most reliable guarantees would be ironclad security agreements between Ukraine, the US, and European countries, ratified by the US House of Representatives and the national parliaments of each European country,” Yatsenyuk emphasized.
