Ukraine needs additional security support from the U.S. based on the Lend-Lease program of World War II. This was stated by Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Сhairman of the Kyiv Security Forum and Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2014 to 2016, in an interview with American journalist Laura Loomer.
According to Yatsenyuk, such support would be beneficial to both sides, since it would not be a grant but a loan. “If you have the opportunity to speak with the U.S. president, please tell him that we are not simply asking for money – we definitely need your support. If there is even the slightest chance to provide Ukraine with additional security support, similar to the Lend-Lease program during World War II, we would be grateful. We’re talking about a loan – this isn’t just grant aid,” Yatsenyuk said in his interview with Loomer.
The KSF Chairman emphasized that Russian ballistic missile strikes could be even more powerful this year. “So we urgently need Patriot systems and the missiles that go with them. You’ve seen this; you’ve witnessed it yourselves,” stressed the KSF Chairman.
Explaining why Trump, in particular, is capable of taking decisive action, Yatsenyuk recalled his previous decisions regarding Russia and expressed support for the new bill on secondary sanctions against Russia and Iran. “He made the decision to provide Ukraine with Javelin anti-tank systems and was very resolute regarding sanctions against ‘Nord Stream,’” the former prime minister added.
